Course overview
Procurement teams often inherit supplier agreements built around unit prices, service levels, penalties and tightly prescribed activities. These arrangements can control spend but frequently fail when demand changes, innovation is needed, or both parties must solve operational problems together. The Vested outsourcing methodology provides a disciplined alternative: an outcome-based partnership model that aligns buyer and supplier around measurable business results, shared incentives and transparent governance. This course prepares procurement professionals to assess where Vested is appropriate and to move a strategic relationship beyond conventional transaction-based contracting.
Participants work through the Vested Five Rules, from outcome-based business models and insight-driven agreements to relational contracting and governance. They learn to distinguish outputs from outcomes, develop a shared value proposition, construct a requirements roadmap, define desired outcomes and performance measures, and design incentive mechanisms that reward joint value creation. The course also addresses supplier selection, open-book commercial models, risk allocation, governance charters, deal architecture and the practical use of a Vested deal scorecard.
Delivery combines instructor-led explanations with contract and sourcing case analysis, facilitated negotiation exercises, scorecard design workshops and peer critique. Participants apply the methodology to a live or simulated strategic outsourcing relationship throughout the week. They leave with a Vested Partnership Blueprint containing an outcome statement, stakeholder map, outcome measures, governance design, commercial principles, risk register and a 90-day implementation plan that can be adapted for their organisation.
The course is designed for experienced procurement, contract management, supply chain and business leaders responsible for high-value, complex or strategically important supplier relationships. It is particularly relevant where traditional SLAs and price-based incentives are creating friction, constraining supplier innovation or failing to produce the business outcomes expected from outsourcing.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Assess supplier relationships against the Vested Five Rules and identify candidates for outcome-based partnering
- Define measurable business outcomes that separate customer value from supplier activities and service outputs
- Build a Vested Partnership Blueprint covering scope, stakeholders, outcomes, governance and implementation actions
- Create an outcome-based scorecard with leading indicators, lagging indicators, targets and data ownership
- Design shared-value incentive mechanisms using gainshare, painshare and performance-based fee principles
- Draft relational contract provisions that establish transparency, flexibility, dispute resolution and joint governance
- Facilitate a buyer-supplier alignment workshop using stakeholder mapping, value-stream evidence and joint problem statements
- Develop a 90-day transition plan for moving an existing strategic contract toward a Vested operating model

- Supplier Relationship Managers — who need a structured model for improving collaboration, performance and innovation
- Business Transformation Leaders — who sponsor outsourcing changes and need governance for cross-company delivery
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have practical experience in procurement, supplier management, contract management or outsourced service delivery. The course assumes familiarity with core sourcing concepts such as RFPs, statements of work, KPIs, service-level agreements, total cost of ownership and supplier performance reviews. Participants should be able to interpret a commercial contract and discuss operational requirements with internal stakeholders. Experience with strategic suppliers or outsourcing is strongly beneficial, although prior knowledge of the Vested methodology is not required. No legal qualification, specialist finance modelling certification, contract authoring system or prior use of Power BI is required.
Training methodology
Each day combines instructor-led Vested methodology sessions with practical application to an outsourcing case or a participant’s own supplier relationship. Participants analyse contract clauses, convert service outputs into business outcomes, build scorecard measures in Microsoft Excel and test incentive options through buyer-supplier negotiation scenarios. Small-group workshops focus on evidence, trade-offs and governance decisions rather than theory alone. The final day uses peer review and instructor coaching to refine each participant’s Vested Partnership Blueprint and produce a prioritised 90-day application plan.
