Course overview
Telecommunications procurement decisions shape network cost, rollout speed, service resilience and long-term supplier dependency. Buyers must compare bids that combine radio, transport, core, cloud, OSS/BSS, field services and managed operations, often with incompatible pricing structures and technical assumptions. This course helps participants turn technical network requirements into defensible sourcing decisions, evaluate suppliers on more than headline price, and manage commercial exposure across the network lifecycle.
Participants learn a structured telecom sourcing process from demand definition through contract award and supplier governance. They practise building category strategies, writing RFI, RFP and RFQ packages, defining weighted technical-commercial scorecards, conducting total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis, and assessing risks in equipment, software, spares, services and managed-network contracts. The programme also addresses vendor lock-in, interoperability, SLAs, acceptance testing, price benchmarking, indexation, warranty, intellectual property and data-security obligations.
Delivery combines instructor-led analysis with telecom procurement casework, bid-evaluation workshops and negotiation simulations. Teams work with realistic supplier proposals for a network modernisation programme, using Microsoft Excel and Power BI to compare cost, service and risk data. Requirements and prerequisites

No prior procurement qualification, legal training, coding capability or advanced network-engineering expertise is required. Complete beginners should expect a practical foundation in procurement terminology before progressing to telecom-specific sourcing exercises.
Training methodology
The five days combine short instructor-led briefings with a single network-modernisation sourcing case that develops throughout the programme. Participants analyse demand, construct an RFP, review simulated supplier responses, calculate TCO in Microsoft Excel and present an award recommendation supported by Power BI visuals. Facilitated groups test technical-commercial scoring assumptions, negotiate selected contract clauses and challenge each other’s supplier-risk assessments. Daily debriefs connect the case to participants’ own categories, and the final session converts the work into an individual 90-day application plan.
