Course overview
Revenue Operations Managers are expected to explain why bookings, pipeline coverage, win rates, sales cycle length, and forecast accuracy moved—and to distinguish genuine performance signals from reporting defects. That requires more than maintaining dashboards. It requires a disciplined analytical model that connects CRM activity, opportunity stages, territory structures, quota attainment, and finance-recognised revenue. This course equips participants to investigate revenue performance questions with defensible data, identify leakage in the sales process, and present findings that sales, finance, and executive leaders can act on.
Participants learn how to structure a revenue data model, define consistent funnel and productivity metrics, query CRM data with SQL, prepare analysis-ready datasets, and build Power BI dashboards for pipeline and forecast management. The programme covers opportunity-stage hygiene, cohort and conversion analysis, pipeline coverage calculations, forecast-versus-actual variance analysis, territory and segment comparisons, and exception reporting. Participants also learn practical data governance methods for resolving duplicate accounts, incomplete fields, inconsistent stage definitions, and conflicting metric calculations across teams.
Delivery combines instructor-led demonstrations with hands-on analysis using realistic Salesforce sales data. Each day includes guided exercises in Microsoft Excel, SQL Server, and Power BI, followed by peer review of metric definitions and management narratives. By the end of the week, participants produce a Revenue Performance Analytics Pack: a documented KPI dictionary, SQL query set, data-quality issue log, Power BI dashboard design, and a 90-day action plan for improving reporting and forecast operations.
The course is designed for experienced revenue operations practitioners who already work with CRM reports or commercial performance data and need stronger analytical capability to support executive decision-making.
Course objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define a revenue KPI dictionary covering pipeline, conversion, velocity, coverage, attainment, and forecast metrics
- Map CRM objects and fields into an analysis-ready revenue data model
- Write SQL queries to join accounts, opportunities, users, activities, and quota data
- Calculate funnel conversion, pipeline velocity, cohort retention, and stage-ageing metrics
- Diagnose data-quality failures using completeness, validity, duplicate, and reconciliation checks
- Build Power BI dashboards with drill-through views, calculated measures, and exception alerts
- Evaluate forecast accuracy using forecast-versus-actual variance and bias analysis
- Produce a Revenue Performance Analytics Pack with findings, recommendations, and implementation priorities
Benefits of attending
For you
- Gain a repeatable method for investigating pipeline and forecast questions rather than relying on static CRM reports
- Build credible SQL and Power BI evidence for recommendations to sales, finance, and executive stakeholders
- Learn to challenge misleading conversion, coverage, and attainment metrics before they influence decisions
- Create a portfolio-ready Revenue Performance Analytics Pack grounded in realistic commercial data
- Strengthen readiness for senior Revenue Operations, Sales Operations, and commercial analytics roles
For your organisation
- Establish more consistent KPI definitions across sales, finance, marketing, and revenue operations
- Reduce time spent reconciling conflicting pipeline, forecast, and booking reports
- Expose CRM data-quality issues that distort territory performance and forecast confidence
- Improve management intervention through stage-ageing, conversion, and pipeline-coverage exception reporting
- Provide leaders with clearer evidence for capacity, territory, quota, and sales-process decisions
Target competencies
Who should attend
- Revenue Operations Managers — who own CRM reporting, pipeline governance, and commercial performance insight
- Sales Operations Managers — who must turn opportunity and activity data into practical sales interventions
- Commercial Operations Managers — who reconcile sales, finance, and customer data for leadership decisions
- Revenue Analytics Managers — who need repeatable methods for defining and validating revenue metrics
- Business Intelligence Analysts — who support sales leadership with CRM-based dashboards and analyses
- Salesforce Administrators — who need to connect field design and data hygiene to usable revenue reporting
Requirements and prerequisites
Participants should have at least one year of experience working with sales, CRM, pipeline, or commercial performance data. They should be comfortable interpreting tables, filters, pivot tables, percentages, ratios, and basic business metrics such as conversion rate and quota attainment. Familiarity with Salesforce reports, Microsoft Excel, or another CRM is useful, and participants should be able to work with a laptop-based spreadsheet and browser application. Prior SQL or Power BI experience is helpful but not required; the course introduces the query patterns and dashboard features used. Advanced statistics, programming, data engineering, and prior finance qualifications are not required.
Training methodology
The programme uses short instructor-led sessions to establish revenue analytics methods, followed by guided work on a realistic Salesforce opportunity dataset. Participants write SQL queries, validate records against agreed metric definitions, construct Excel analysis tables, and build Power BI report pages. Case discussions examine common RevOps failures, including inflated pipeline, stage inconsistency, and forecast bias. Small groups review each other’s findings as if preparing material for a weekly revenue meeting. The final session converts analysis into a prioritised 90-day reporting and data-governance plan.
Course outline
Day 1: Revenue Data Foundations and Metric Governance
- Revenue Operations operating model and decision questions
- Salesforce account, contact, opportunity, activity, and user data structures
- Revenue funnel definitions from lead through closed revenue
- KPI dictionary design for pipeline, bookings, and attainment
- Metric grain, time periods, and fiscal calendar alignment
- Data lineage from CRM records to executive dashboards
- Data-quality dimensions: completeness, validity, uniqueness, and timeliness
Workshop: Participants audit a sample CRM extract and produce a KPI dictionary plus a prioritised data-quality issue log.
Day 2: SQL Analysis for Pipeline and Sales Performance
- SQL SELECT, WHERE, ORDER BY, and CASE patterns for CRM data
- INNER JOIN and LEFT JOIN across opportunity, account, and owner tables
- Date functions for fiscal periods, stage ageing, and sales-cycle duration
- Aggregation with GROUP BY for segment, territory, and rep analysis
- Common table expressions for reusable revenue calculations
- Window functions for rankings, cohorts, and period comparisons
- Query validation through record counts and reconciliation totals
Workshop: Participants write and validate a SQL query set that produces pipeline, conversion, and rep-attainment analysis tables.
Day 3: Funnel, Cohort, and Pipeline Health Analysis
- Stage-to-stage conversion rate calculation
- Opportunity cohort analysis by creation month and source
- Pipeline velocity formula and sensitivity analysis
- Stage-ageing and stalled-opportunity detection
- Pipeline coverage ratios against quota and forecast
- Win-loss analysis by segment, product, and competitor

Workshop: Participants analyse a declining win-rate case and produce a funnel diagnostic identifying the highest-impact leakage points.
Day 4: Forecast Analytics and Power BI Reporting
- Forecast categories, commit logic, and forecast process controls
- Forecast-versus-actual variance and bias calculations
- Weighted pipeline and probability calibration assessment
- Power BI data model relationships and star-schema design
